With over 70 artists this year there should be be able to find a little something to warm up your home this fall, and with only 13 venues you can easily see the whole show! I shall be at Kathryn Joseph Salon, 168 South Street (@corner of Elm), along with Mike Dziomba and Chris Siasat.
Venues are mostly along Elm and South Street, you can stroll along the avenue, taking in the art along with the great bakeries, restaurants and boutiques on the way. For Small Works 2013, Trestle presents the work of 33 artists from the United States and abroad. In keeping with Trestle Gallery's past Small Works exhibitions, all of the work on display is 12 x 12 x 12 inches or smaller. This limited scale allows visitors to have an intimate experience with the art before them and showcases how relatively small pieces can make a strong visual impact. Despite the unifying scale of each piece, the artwork is extremely varied across media and subject matter.

Stop by 1978 Arts Center this Sunday June 2nd to see "Draining", my favorite of the recent new paintings. I love how the realistic blueberries, fresh and bursting with juice starts to blur into abstract strokes of color as the painting itself starts to drain away through the holes in the colander. Thick paint is scumbled and troweled over a hidden under painting which has been sanded and scraped away and liquid paint is dripped and poured and mingles with gestural brushstrokes.

Warm Pears in Burgundy - still life oil painting | SOLD
Day off for you today. This one named itself as the pears slowly toasted under the hot studio light and filled the room with their delicious autumnal scent. Not at all the thing for a cool spring day!
All these new paintings will be out and about the first weekend in June.

The Small Wonders show in Annapolis, MD is a great spot to pick up something for your special someone, even if they are impossible to buy for. For instance, I bet they haven't got a cute hand knitted spider sweater. I'm told it's what all the best dressed arachnids have on their Christmas list this year
