Juicy Oil Paintings at the Deli

Oh yum, painting again! Such fun

I'm really pleased with the way the show turned out at Maplewood Deli and Grill. The paintings focus on the simple, unadorned beauty of common fruits and vegetables, which works really well with the clean, elegant black and white decor

New Artist Website to Explore

phew! that was a busy couple of weeks I've been working on a couple of websites (amongst other things!) and have had a great time looking through all Heidi's fabulous watercolor paintings.

I do love working with other artists and being able to snoop through their portfolio; following the threads and recurring themes that constantly inspire them. Like Heidi's fascination with light shining through such everyday things as fresh spring tulips, golden fall leaves or antique glass bottles, until they glow with all the glory of a stained glass window.

Head on over for a wee Art Break

I have spent the morning helping to hang my booth at the L&M Gallery. I got to have a quick peek at some of the other booths and there is some beautiful handmade silver jewelry, some jolly knits as well as some beautiful watercolor paintings

alas - the chocolatier was not there, but I have it on good authority that her creations are delicious

I hope you can stop by and help raise some money for the Food Pantry - maybe you'll win one of my new miniatures "Adirondack Vignette" in the raffle!

oh boy that was fun!

Pan Pastels have a new range of really dark, muted colors that I think will work well with the charcoal - kerching! And they have these fabby lidded palettes for holding the containers whilst you're working - included with the set

Scrumptious Art Bins with lift out trays and a deep well for storage...and at that price I'll have two - kerching!

canvas canvas canvas, so I can get started painting again - kerching!

some lovely smooth sanded paper from UArt for pastel, charcoal and also color pencil it turns out (I know, I tried it) - kerching!

some new envelopes and mat cards designed specifically for my mini-drawings. Look out for a new note card series this summer - kerching!

samples of ampersand pastel board and clay board - FREE

sample of Canson Edition Print Paper, with my image printed on it - FREE Whitest white mat finish with no optical brightners for all you Printheads and Paperphiles out there

Faber-Castell pencil sample and juicy glossy catalogue for enthusing with the rep about how good their pencils are. FREE

A chance to put in my request for Faber Castell to make the block bars of color pencil pigment, like Prismacolor ArtStix.

Learned that Faber Castell pencils have bonded pigment throughout, which is why they rarely shatter when Lulu nudges them off the table and why you can get a nice sharp point on them.

News of an 8-ply mat cutter coming out this month from Logan (silent joyful jigging ensued)

And best of all - I got outta there for less than $100...just

MARRRRRRRVELOOOOOUS afternoon - Thank you Jerry's

"The Power of Art" pbs Art History series returns

The Power of Art - Simon Schama
The Power of Art - Simon Schama

Hooray!PBS is repeating my favorite art series "The Power of Art" by Simon Schama Without his book  The Power of Art I would never have gone to find the Turner paintings at Tate Britain...

and finding them absent (on a worldwide tour) I would never have taken the time to see "Colour and Line"...

and then I would not have spent a terrific afternoon sketching with Turner

"Colour and Line" documents Turner's experiments with new pigments, color theory and new printing techniques. And has fabulous sketching stations, where you can sit and study and copy Turner's landscape sketches.

And now through the power of the www, you can visit from the comfort of your sofa!

I finally caught up with the wayward Turners at The New York Metropolitan, in the sublime exhibit celebrating his life's work, which I managed to visit twice before it made its way onward. In a neat little twist, I also managed to catch up with Simon Schama who started me on this journey. He was taking part in their Sunday lecture series and was also in the gallery afterwards.

In a very un-British, extreemly bashful moment, I managed to accost him in the gallery and thank him for writing this book and making the series. Without them I would not have found Turner

Nor have spent the day learning from the Professor of Perspective

The Power of Art is on PBS Channel 13 Sundays at 1pm EST This Sunday it is Van Gogh

"Walk with a Crocodile"

I am really looking forward to seeing Booked 7- the  Book Arts Round Table Exhibition in South Orange. I had such fun at last year's show, and spent a delightful couple of hours picking up, reading and playing with all the books.

I am particularly looking forward to seeing my friend Ann's book - "Walk with a Crocodile", with it's pull out pages and peepholes ~ looks like fun!
