Juicy new oil painting : Summer Fruit

Grapes and Cantaloupe, Sliced : oil painting

Boy! - painting those dusty purple grapes was fun! I am going to have to do some more...perhaps a whole vineyard. And that juicy orange paint was delicious to work with - such a zingy joy after lovely dusty, dark charcoal

To celebrate some recent sales of original drawings and paintings, I have treated myself to some celebratory new brushes and paint. Not quite as tasty as pie, but not so detrimental to the swimsuit fitting either!

South Orange and Maplewood Studio Tour - June 6th

studioL

This year I am looking forward to being part of the South Orange and Maplewood Artists Studio Tour. Even though my actual studio is elsewhere, I have been made an honorary "Maplewoodian" for the day

I am borrowing the porch of a very kind friend to sit and color all day. So come by and feel free to ask any burning questions you may have involving pencil sharpeners and erasers.

No vacuuming, no emptying the trash, no squirrelling away all those things that really have no home BONUS!

A free shuttle bus leaves from South Orange or Maplewood Station at 11am and will make stops throughout the two villages. So Park and Ride, or just hop on the train from NYC Take a look at Nancy Tobin's review in the NY Times Local Edition to help plan your day

DATE : June 6th 11-5pm

PLACE : Maplewood and South Orange, NJ

TICKETS : $7 advance purchase, $10 day of the tour Buy Tickets and Map at :1978 Gallery and The Baird tickets also available on the shuttle bus see the website for full details of ticket locations

Forest charcoal landscape drawing

charcoal drawing of forest landscape

oh - fun fun fun!

I was pondering about incorporating color with the charcoal, but there was something nicely ironic about drawing a forest landscape with a burnt stick. So I will live with it for a while, before I make any decisions.

Maybe I will make a few large giclee prints and try experimenting with adding color over the ink

hmmmm...  I think I have found my summer project

Charcoal and pastel still life drawing (Carbon Footprint #39)

purple chocolate box with green ribbon | charcoal and pastel drawing

Normally I wouldn't be able to resist the last chocolate, but Peanut Butter Cup - no problem. We end up fighting about who won't eat that one. But you know I couldn't resist that luscious purple box

No title for this one yet, so leave any suggestions in  a comment and I might just send you the last chocolate

Description : large charcoal and pastel drawing of an (almost) empty chocolate box, juicy purple box combines with pale green satin ribbon to leave a mouthwatering longing for the last chocolate...even if it is Peanut Butter Cup

This charcoal and pastel still life drawing is part of the “Carbon Footprints” series

Think "Blue Sky" for the Mayapple Festival

color pencil miniature landscape

Lets hope the sky will be this crystal clear for the Mayapple festival this weekend.

If you're the sort of weirdo that likes to get up at the crack of dawn for a marathon, then the runners are assembling at 6am. For the rest of us, the Mayapple Festival begins at 10am - time enough for a lie in and a bacon sandwich.

Nature hikes and a frisbee competition will be taking place throughout the day. And if you're in a more contemplative mood a nature inspired Creative Writing Workshop will be held at 2pm.

There will be also an Art fair featuring nature inspired art from local artists - including yours truly and fabulous juicy flower photographs from my friend Joy Yagid

If you are planning to stop by to say howdy...bring me another bacon sarnie

Juicy Oil Paintings at the Deli

Bell and Chili - oil painting
Bell and Chili - oil painting

Oh yum, painting again! Such fun

I'm really pleased with the way the show turned out at Maplewood Deli and Grill. The paintings focus on the simple, unadorned beauty of common fruits and vegetables, which works really well with the clean, elegant black and white decor

New Artist Website to Explore

phew! that was a busy couple of weeks I've been working on a couple of websites (amongst other things!) and have had a great time looking through all Heidi's fabulous watercolor paintings.

I do love working with other artists and being able to snoop through their portfolio; following the threads and recurring themes that constantly inspire them. Like Heidi's fascination with light shining through such everyday things as fresh spring tulips, golden fall leaves or antique glass bottles, until they glow with all the glory of a stained glass window.

Head on over for a wee Art Break

I have spent the morning helping to hang my booth at the L&M Gallery. I got to have a quick peek at some of the other booths and there is some beautiful handmade silver jewelry, some jolly knits as well as some beautiful watercolor paintings

alas - the chocolatier was not there, but I have it on good authority that her creations are delicious

I hope you can stop by and help raise some money for the Food Pantry - maybe you'll win one of my new miniatures "Adirondack Vignette" in the raffle!
